Heliopora, while not a flashy coral, is an
interesting one.
It's an Octocoral, yet is a calcifying coral. It's
in a different Order than the soft corals we know well, growing
a blue skeleton below the tan skin and polyps.
I got this frag in early 2005, it has encrusted and
done well in the tank yet I realize it will be quite a while before
this develops the many-ridged form of a mature colony.
It seems to do well with fairly high flow, and handles
high light well. Takes a little time to get settled, best to leave
where it does well and polyps regularly. For me, this will put out
it's polyps a little more at night than during the day, but seems
to put out it's polyps a good amount.
