Plerogyra - Bubble Coral

Go back to `Corals' Page

When my wife moved her nano in, one of the stars of that tank was her bubble coral.

A few years later, it continues to grow and remains a stunning coral that photographs well.

Whether during daytime:

With sweeper tentacles out:

Or under actinic:

One strange episode I've experienced is when one `bubble' disconnected and let the top-part free-floating down at the floor of the aquarium.
I gathered the loose part and put it in a cup near the mother colony hoping to keep it alive and that it would attach to a small piece of live rock that I put in there.
Whether it died, floated away, or passed a mysterious fate I don't know, I just know one day it was gone. I must say, the `stalk' of the bubble that was left is strange looking, to say the least.

The whole gallery of bubble photos is below.
